Fossil Fox | West Runton

This poem was inspired by professional fossil hunter Michelle who you might find at the Happy Huts at West Runton Seaview Café. Fossil Fox

Inspired by Michelle, West Runton, Norfolk’s very own professional fossil hunter

‘I’m going to find a mammoth’ she said. ‘That’s nice,’ they said.

So, off she went. ‘I’m going to find a mammoth. You’ll see.’

‘You’ll never’, they said, so off she sped. Searching, searching

the deep history bed for amber, jet and glittering deer antler.

Cave-bear and hyena pooh! Enough for me; enough for you.

Ancient squid belemnites, mammoth teeth and ammonites.

Human foot-prints, found in time.

Spangly, gorgeous fossil finds, opening our fabulous fossil fox eyes.

Follow your heart and your dreams, with the tide.

‘I’ve found a mammoth!’ she said, one day.

‘You did, you did, hip, hip, hooray!’
