Description of your activity
Celebrate butterflies and look for fairies with this adventure on a magical meadow! Take part in the Big Butterfly Count, make your own butterfly spray paint art and make a mini butterfly garden to take home. Older children will have the chance to gain a Nature Guide certificate by research butterflies and giving a talk to younger children.
What will they need
Please bring a water bottle, sun hat and apply sun cream. Food will be provided.
Who can join
This session is open to children aged 4 to 13 though we do sometimes have older children if families feel they will really benefit particularly with SEND – please do contact us to discuss. Older children can be awarded a Natural Wonder Nature Guide certificate for inspiring care for biodiversity.
Please let us know if your child has any additional requirements so we can ensure we have the correct staffing levels and make adjustments.
What to expect
Inspired by the Natural Wonder poetry collection and our popular fairy doors, the session combines creative fun with wild play and conservation.
Expect magical wild play outside in nature and lots of fun in a small group setting to ensure children can feel safe and make friends. Look for fairies, find our fairy doors and enjoy butterflies! Older children aged 11-13 can also gain a nature guide certificate by sharing a talk or creative work inspired by butterflies to the group!
Each attendee will receive literature, art to take home and a nutritious lunch, so please do let us know of any dietary requirements in advance so we can cater for this – one of the team will be in touch to organise this.
Location
Meet at the River Garden carpark at 9.30am and someone will meet your child to take you to the workshop space next door where we will enjoy creative activities before going out to the meadow to look for fairies butterflies. This is also where older children can share their nature guide talks.
The rest of the activity takes placed at Cary’s Meadow. Parking is available at the River Garden for drop off but please note it can get very busy at lunchtime for collection.
